Gombe Revenue Service nabs five-man syndicate over forgery

Gombe State Internal Revenue Service has uncovered a five-man syndicate issuing fake demand notice within the service.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent on Saturday, Executive Chairman of the service Abubakar Tata, pledged to get to the root of the matter.

Recall that this is not the first time the service is uncovering such malpractices, in 2019 the about 10,000 electronic payment receipts were said to be stolen by some staff of the Revenue Service.

He said this was after unmasking the taxpayers for the sake of singling out the perpetrators of the crime within the service, adding that a lot is being done to bring sanity and rid of bad eggs.

According to Tata, the five-man syndicate who pleaded guilty was nabbed following attempts of forging the signature of the Executive Director in charge of tax operations.

He said, “After inviting the taxpayers who were masked for the purpose of identifying the officers responsible for the issuance of fake demand notice.
